Why Choose Olga Kandov, DMD – Brite Smiles for Preventive Dentistry?

Dental Checkups & Teeth Cleanings

During your dental exam, we’ll check the various surfaces of your teeth for indications of decay, and we’ll look for warning signs of gum disease as well. We may also take a diagnostic X-ray, which is essential for finding bone loss and other oral health issues that would otherwise be hard to see. Regular visits also include a cleaning; during this procedure, plaque and tartar are removed from the teeth. It’s especially important for us to get rid of tartar since it has hardened into place and can’t be removed with regular brushing.

Oral Cancer Screenings

Despite not receiving as much publicity as other forms of cancer, over 50,000 Americans are diagnosed with oral cancer every year, and only 57% of them will survive for more than five years if their condition isn’t treated. We’ll screen for oral cancer during your regular checkups. To make it easier to detect truly dangerous symptoms, Dr. Kandov uses the VELscope®. This device uses a special blue light that exposes lesions and other changes in the mouth that we might miss with a regular visual inspection.

Fluoride Treatments

Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that strengthens the enamel protecting your teeth, making them much more resistant to the acids that bacteria produce when they feed on sugar. In other words, by exposing your teeth to fluoride, you lower your risk for cavities. Thus, to give your teeth added protection, we can apply fluoride topically at your checkups and prescribe a fluoride supplement that you can take at home. These treatments are especially recommended for children.
