Why Choose Dr. Olga Kandov for Implant-Retained Dentures?

How Do Implant-Retained Dentures Work?

Implant-retained dentures make it possible for you to enjoy a smile that is permanent and can last for decades or more. Instead of relying on a traditional denture that is removable and requires regular soaking and can cause embarrassment should it accidentally slip out while enjoying a meal with family or friends, an implant-retained denture is surgically placed into your jawbone and creates a stable foundation for your new smile.

Am I a Candidate for Implant-Retained Dentures?

Dr. Kandov will be the only individual who can determine if you are a qualified candidate for treatment. It is necessary that you have ample jawbone density before moving forward with implant placement simply because this area of your mouth serves as the foundation for your future smile.

If the jawbone has weakened over time, it may be necessary for you to undergo a bone graft or sinus lift to add bone minerals to these deteriorated areas. This will encourage additional bone growth to allow for a stronger, more stable base.

It is also important that your oral health is in good shape and that you do not require periodontal therapy to treat gum disease. Patients who smoke are strongly urged to stop before receiving dental implants, as this can lead to potential failure once in place.

The Implant-Retained Dentures Procedure

When seeing Dr. Kandov for implant-retained dentures, she will start by examining your smile and determining if your jawbone is dense enough for successful implant placement. Using a CT/Cone Beam Scanner, she will watch as a 3D model of your mouth and jaw is created, allowing her to plan your implant treatment and placement more carefully. If your jawbone does prove to have enough density to move forward, she will take impressions, which will be sent off to a dental lab for technicians to custom-create your restoration.

During the procedure, she will make 4-6 incisions in the gums to place the dental implants. Once they are properly in place, she will close up the surgical sites and send you home to spend the next 3-6 months recovering. It is important that you do not rush this time frame, as the implants must fuse with the jawbone and surrounding tissue.

After these implants are firmly fused, you will return to have the abutments placed as well as your custom-made denture, which will be fixed to the top of your implants and secured into place.
